This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") defines the rules and restrictions for using mealtally. By using our Service, you agree to comply with this policy. Violations may result in suspension or termination of your account. This policy supplements and is incorporated into our Terms of Service.
1. Prohibited Uses
You agree not to use mealtally for any of the following purposes:
1.1 Illegal Activity
- Any activity that violates local, state, federal, or international law
- Fraud, theft, money laundering, or other financial crimes
- Trafficking, distribution, or promotion of illegal substances or activities
- Child exploitation or any activity involving minors in harmful ways
1.2 Abuse and Harassment
- Harassing, threatening, intimidating, or abusing other users or mealtally staff
- Sending abusive, hateful, discriminatory, or offensive messages
- Stalking, doxxing, or sharing personal information of others without consent
- Bullying or targeted harassment based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
1.3 Spam and Unsolicited Messages
- Sending spam, mass unsolicited messages, or commercial advertisements via the Service
- Using mealtally’s SMS or messaging features to send bulk messages or marketing content
- Selling, reselling, or redistributing access to the Service
1.4 Security Violations
- Attempting to gain unauthorized access to mealtally’s systems, servers, or databases
- Accessing other users' accounts or data without permission
- Probing, scanning, or testing the vulnerability of the Service or its infrastructure
- Circumventing security measures, authentication mechanisms, or access controls
- Denial-of-service (DoS) or distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks
- Introducing viruses, malware, ransomware, or other malicious code
1.5 Reverse Engineering and Unauthorized Access
- Reverse engineering, decompiling, disassembling, or otherwise attempting to discover the source code of the Service
- Creating derivative works based on the Service without authorization
- Using automated tools, bots, scrapers, or crawlers to access the Service (except via authorized API access with an API key)
- Bypassing rate limits or usage restrictions through technical means
1.6 Circumventing Usage Limits
- Creating multiple accounts to evade Free tier limits (3 meals/day)
- Using fake phone numbers or email addresses to create multiple accounts
- Sharing accounts or credentials with others to circumvent subscription requirements
- Attempting to manipulate or bypass meal logging limits, API rate limits, or subscription tier restrictions
1.7 Intellectual Property Violations
- Copyright infringement (uploading or sharing copyrighted content without permission)
- Trademark infringement (using mealtally’s trademarks, logos, or branding without permission)
- Violating others' intellectual property rights
1.8 Impersonation and Misrepresentation
- Impersonating another person, entity, or mealtally staff
- Falsely claiming affiliation with mealtally or any third party
- Creating accounts with false or misleading information
- Misrepresenting your identity or credentials
1.9 API Abuse
- Exceeding API rate limits or making excessive API requests
- Using the API for unauthorized purposes (e.g., bulk data scraping, competitive analysis)
- Selling, sublicensing, or redistributing API access without authorization
- Using the API to build competing services
1.10 Harmful Content
- Uploading or submitting content that is defamatory, obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit
- Content that promotes violence, terrorism, or harm to self or others
- Content that glorifies eating disorders, self-harm, or dangerous health behaviors
- False or misleading information that could cause harm
2. Authorized API Use
If you have an API key for authorized API access:
- You may use the API for personal use or to build integrations with mealtally
- You must comply with rate limits and scoping restrictions associated with your API key
- You may not use the API to scrape data, build competing services, or access data beyond what your API key permits
- You may not share, sell, or transfer your API key to others
All other automated access (bots, scrapers, etc.) is prohibited.
3. Enforcement
3.1 Investigation and Suspension
We reserve the right to investigate suspected violations of this AUP. If we believe you have violated this policy, we may:
- Suspend your account temporarily while we investigate
- Restrict access to specific features
- Request additional information or clarification
- Report violations to law enforcement or other authorities
3.2 Account Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account immediately, with or without notice, if you violate this AUP. Grounds for termination include, but are not limited to:
- Repeated violations of this policy
- Serious violations (security breaches, illegal activity, harassment)
- Violations that cause harm to mealtally, other users, or third parties
- Failure to comply with our investigation or remedy a violation

3.3 Legal Action
We reserve the right to take legal action, including civil or criminal prosecution, against users who violate this AUP or applicable law. We may cooperate with law enforcement in investigations of illegal activity.
4. Reporting Violations
If you become aware of a violation of this Acceptable Use Policy, please report it to us immediately:

- Subject line: "AUP Violation Report"
- Include: Description of the violation, usernames or phone numbers involved (if known), screenshots or evidence (if available), and any other relevant details
We take all reports seriously and will investigate promptly. However, we are not obligated to take action on every report and we will not disclose the outcome of investigations to third parties.
5. No Liability for User Conduct
mealtally is not responsible for the conduct of users or the content they submit to the Service. We do not actively monitor user activity but may investigate reports of violations.
If you are harmed by another user's conduct, your remedies are against that user, not against mealtally.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time to address new risks, legal requirements, or changes to our Service. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a new "Last Updated" date.
Your continued use of mealtally after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
